Play Fireboy and Watergirl 5: Elements, explore seven temples, solve co-op puzzles, collect diamonds, avoid hazards, and guide both heroes to the exits.
Fireboy and Watergirl 5: Elements is a cooperative puzzle-platform game where you guide the elemental duo through seven themed temples filled with hazards, switches, platforms, diamonds, and environmental puzzles. Fireboy can safely cross fire but must avoid water, while Watergirl can move through water but cannot touch fire. Both characters are defeated by green goo, so completing a level requires finding safe routes for both heroes and getting them to their matching exits.
Elements combines mechanics associated with earlier Fireboy and Watergirl adventures while introducing new Fire, Water, and Wind temples. You can solve the puzzles alone by controlling both characters or share the keyboard with another player.
Every level is built around cooperation. Fireboy and Watergirl have different environmental strengths, so a route that is safe for one hero may be impossible for the other.
The game also uses buttons, levers, platforms, movable objects, and other mechanisms that often require one character to help the other. Elements spreads these mechanics across seven temples: Forest, Fire, Light, Crystal, Ice, Wind, and Water.
The official versions also encourage players to collect all diamonds and complete stages efficiently, so reaching the doors is only part of mastering each temple.
| Character | Control | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Fireboy | Left / Right Arrow Keys | Move horizontally |
| Fireboy | Up Arrow | Jump |
| Watergirl | A / D | Move horizontally |
| Watergirl | W | Jump |
The separate keyboard layouts make local cooperative play possible. One player can use the Arrow Keys for Fireboy while another controls Watergirl with A, W, and D. Solo players can operate both sets themselves.
Fireboy and Watergirl 5 is structured around seven elemental temples: Forest, Fire, Light, Crystal, Ice, Wind, and Water. This structure gives Elements more mechanical variety than an adventure focused on a single temple theme.
The Forest Temple uses the familiar Fireboy and Watergirl puzzle formula: separate elemental hazards, diamonds, switches, platforms, and cooperation between the two characters.
The Fire Temple emphasizes Fireboy's ability to move through lava. Because Watergirl cannot safely follow him through those areas, Fireboy frequently has to reach mechanisms and create a route that lets her progress.
The Water Temple reverses that relationship. Watergirl has greater freedom around the water-filled sections, so she often takes the lead in opening a safe path for Fireboy.
Wind is one of the major new mechanics in Elements. Large fans can lift the characters upward, adding vertical movement puzzles where timing and positioning determine whether Fireboy or Watergirl reaches the required platform.
Elements also returns to temple concepts from earlier entries. The Light, Ice, and Crystal areas bring previous puzzle ideas into the larger seven-temple structure, requiring players to adapt their approach as the environment changes.
Many levels cannot be completed by simply running toward the exit. Pressure buttons and levers alter the environment, often opening gates or changing platform positions.
If one character reaches a button that the other cannot access, keep that hero in place while you move the second character through the newly opened route. Leaving too early may remove the path before your partner has crossed.
When you encounter a blocked route, search the rest of the level before attempting repeated jumps. Fireboy and Watergirl puzzles are usually solved by manipulating the environment rather than forcing movement through an inaccessible section.
Do not focus entirely on whichever character is closest to the next platform. Check what the move will mean for the second hero as well. A useful route should eventually leave both characters able to reach their doors.
In the Fire Temple, use Fireboy to investigate lava-heavy sections first. In the Water Temple, do the opposite with Watergirl. Their elemental immunity often reveals which character should handle a mechanism before the other advances.
When playing alone, difficult puzzles become easier if you stop one character on a secure platform and focus on the other. Trying to move both simultaneously can create unnecessary mistakes around hazards.
Fans change your vertical movement. Before jumping into their airflow, identify the platform you are trying to reach and make sure the character is aligned correctly.
If a diamond requires a detour, collect it before positioning both characters near the doors. Otherwise, you may need to undo part of your completed route and solve the same mechanism again.
Fireboy survives fire and Watergirl survives water, but green goo is dangerous to both. Always find another route instead of assuming one character can cross it.
Fireboy and Watergirl 5: Elements supports both solo play and cooperative play. The official release specifically allows you to explore the temples alone or with a friend.
When playing solo, puzzle difficulty partly comes from managing two characters and two keyboard layouts. With two players, the mechanical workload is divided, but communication becomes more important. One player may need to remain on a button while the other crosses a platform, and moving too early can disrupt the entire sequence.

For the closest match, start with Fireboy and Watergirl. If you prefer the platforming side of Elements, Vex 3 provides a more movement-focused challenge.
There are seven elemental temples: Fire, Water, Forest, Ice, Light, Wind, and Crystal.
Fireboy uses the Arrow Keys, while Watergirl uses A and D to move and W to jump.
The game combines temple concepts from previous entries while adding three new areas: the Fire Temple, Water Temple, and Wind Temple.
No. Green goo is dangerous to both Fireboy and Watergirl.
Oslo Albet developed Fireboy & Watergirl: Elements. The official Steam edition was released on January 24, 2019.
Fireboy and Watergirl 5: Elements expands the cooperative formula by putting seven different temple styles into one adventure. Fireboy and Watergirl still depend on their opposite elemental abilities, but the Fire, Water, and Wind temples introduce new situations where one character must lead before the other can progress. Study each level, use switches and platforms in the correct order, collect the diamonds, and coordinate both heroes until they reach their matching exits.
